GSL History Book
By Mark S. Gustavson, Bob Wick and Randy Vandraiss
Long promised and anticipated, THE GSL INTERNATIONAL MODEL CAR CHAMPIONSHIP, Sixteen Years of
Auto Modeling Excellence, authored by GSL founder Mark S. Gustavson is now available. With the phenomenal success of the GSL Reunion Championship, Gustavson has decided to add another chapter on the Reunion along
with photos of the Reunion provided by Gregg Hutchings, editor of Model Cars Magazine (photos of other years come from the GSL Archives and Gary Schmidt).
The book includes a large research section on two famed contests in the history of our hobby for the purpose of placing the GSL Championship series in an historical context
. After some initial research, the help of Museum Research Director Randy Vandraiss and his assistants, Rex Barden and Bill Harrison, was necessary to flesh out the history of the famed Revell-Pactra and,
later, the Revell-Testor contest series. A vast amount of historical information has been developed and is included as a separate appendix in the book. Similarly, Tim Boyd
assembled a record of the MPC Contest series with help from Chuck Helppie.
The book features around 150 photos (16 in color) and 198 pages, lists of all winners and
sponsors, quotes from historic GSL participants, an extensive footnote section, photos of GSL memorabilia, and other items of historic interest. Published by the newly formed Championship Publishing, LLC, in Salt Lake City, all net proceeds from the book will be donated to the Museum. The price is $30
.00 including shipping. Please buy the book to support the Museum!
